Our mission

We’re giving people a new way to give to charity. Why? In a nutshell, because people aren’t satisfied with how they give to charity. People who are unsatisfied with their charitable giving give less, stop giving, or never even start. It’s the charities, and the people they help, that lose out.

We will help you to be satisfied with charitable giving, and if you thought you were satisfied before, we’ll help you cover even more. It’s an idea we’re very excited about, and everyone – donors, charities and those in need – will benefit.

Giving to charity

If you’re like us, you’ve considered giving to charity at some point. We’re not talking about helping out people on the street or putting change in the collection boxes in shops; we mean properly sitting down and saying, “I want to give something more substantial, to do my bit.”

What do you think of then? Oxfam? Barnardo’s? RNIB? Cancer charities? Mental care? Hospices?

Problems

This list grows very quickly – there are hundreds of well-known, long-standing charities in the UK (there are many causes a lot of people care about).
Currently, an individual cannot cover everything they care about.

Our view is that this is unnecessary and damaging. We believe that donors should be able to find a sense of completeness and fulfilment in their giving, and this is the principal objective of Empath UK. We feel that empowering donors in this way will result in a much stronger charitable sector.

There are two big questions if you’re considering giving regularly to charity: what charities do you give to, and how do you split your donation between them?

What would your answer be? At present, you would choose maybe a couple of charities – well-known or local charities, or one of special significance to you – and decide on a division that feels right.

If someone asks you about the charities you care about but have omitted, what can you say? That you didn’t have enough money for a third or fourth charity, or that you believe market forces will ensure everything balances out?

Reaching further

Previously it would have been fair to say that the small amount you had to give would only divide so far – it seems unlikely that any charity would thank you for your 50p donation each month – but not any more. Empath is based on bringing together a large number of similar-minded donors and a large number of charities, so you can reach all the charities you want with however much or little you can give. Take a look at how much we can cover straight away by donating as a group.

Many thanks for reading. We very much hope you’ll become more involved with us.
